Looking for Security in Brooklyn? Here’s the Real Deal
My buddy owns three buildings in Crown Heights. Last year, someone broke into his basement twice in one month. Know what finally stopped it? A decent security guard who actually gave a damn about the job.
That’s the thing about Brooklyn – every neighborhood’s different, every building’s got its own problems. And most security companies? They don’t get it. They’ll stick the same guy who works Manhattan office buildings on your Williamsburg warehouse and wonder why it doesn’t work out.
What Actually Works (And What Doesn’t)
The Good Guards Know Brooklyn I’ve been doing this for eight years now. Started with one building in Park Slope, now we cover everything from Red Hook to Bed-Stuy. Here’s what I learned: the guy protecting your DUMBO office better understand that neighborhood differently than someone working East New York. Different problems, different solutions.
They Actually Show Up Crazy how this isn’t a given, right? We had a client switch to us because their last company would just… not show up sometimes. No call, no explanation. Your guard says 6 PM? He’s there at 5:55, every single time.
They Talk to You Had a client in Fort Greene – her security company never told her anything. Turns out they’d been dealing with the same troublemaker for weeks but nobody bothered mentioning it. When something happens at your property, you should know about it.
What We Actually Do Around Brooklyn
Building Security Most of our work is buildings. Apartments, offices, construction sites. Sometimes it’s just about having someone there so people think twice. Sometimes it’s more complicated – problem tenants, construction theft, whatever. We handle it.
Store Security Own a shop in Brooklyn? Yeah, shoplifting’s getting worse. But it’s not just that – you got employee issues, after-hours break-ins, crazy customers. We work with stores from mom-and-pop places in Bensonhurst to bigger retailers in Downtown Brooklyn.
Events Company party? Wedding? Block party that might get out of hand? We make sure everyone has a good time and goes home safe. Did security for a restaurant opening in Carroll Gardens last month – 300 people, no incidents.
Patrol Services Maybe you don’t need someone sitting in one spot all night. We’ll swing by your places every few hours, check on things, handle any problems that come up. Works good for smaller businesses or multiple properties.
How Not to Get Screwed Over
Ask Them About Brooklyn Simple test: ask them about specific neighborhoods. If they can’t tell you why security in Williamsburg is different from Bay Ridge, they probably don’t know what they’re doing.
Check How Fast They Respond When you call with a problem, how long before someone shows up? We guarantee 30 minutes anywhere in Brooklyn. Not everyone can do that.
Talk to Their Other Clients Don’t just take their word for it. Ask for phone numbers. Good companies have happy clients who’ll tell you about their experience.
Don’t Go with the Cheapest Security guards in Brooklyn cost $18-25 an hour for regular work, more for armed or specialized stuff. Someone quoting $12 an hour? There’s a reason, and you won’t like what it is.
Where We Work
Been covering Brooklyn for years now. Some of our regular spots:
North Side: Williamsburg (lots of new construction), Greenpoint (mostly industrial), DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights (fancy stuff, different problems)
Central: Fort Greene and Clinton Hill (mix of everything), Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights (getting better but still need to be careful)
South: Park Slope and Prospect Heights (mostly residential), Carroll Gardens and Red Hook (some weird late-night stuff)
Further Out: Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst (family businesses, different vibe), plus East New York and Brownsville when needed
Questions People Always Ask
“What’s it cost?” Basic guard, no weapon, standard training – $20-22 an hour. Armed guard or someone with specialized skills, you’re looking at $28-35. Emergency response costs more. I’ll give you real numbers after we talk.
“How fast can you start?” Emergency? Few hours. Regular job? Give me two days to find the right person and brief them properly. Rushing this stuff never works out.
“Your guys actually from Brooklyn?” Most of them live here, yeah. Makes a difference when your guard knows the subway system and which blocks get sketchy after 10 PM.
“What if something goes wrong?” Depends what kind of wrong. Medical emergency, fight, break-in – our guys are trained for all of it. Plus I’m on call 24/7 if they need backup or decisions made.
